Quick · the day itself
The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise is the boat service on Lake Ashi, and this site is built around a guided coach day from Tokyo that includes a cruise on the lake. The day starts at Matsuya Ginza or the LOVE statue in Shinjuku, and the coach takes about 2 hours to the Mount Fuji 5th Station, which the listing puts at 2,300 meters.
After the mountain comes lunch at a local restaurant, a buffet if you booked that option, and a 10-minute pass-by of a viewpoint. Then the tour crosses into Hakone for a ropeway ride and boards the boat across Lake Ashi.
The coach then drives to Odawara Station, where you board the bullet train for a 40-minute ride, with a one-way ticket to Tokyo Station included; the listing puts the arrival in Tokyo at around 6 PM. It is a long, full day of transport and views, not a relaxed afternoon by the lake.
Why this day
This day trip takes you by coach to the Mount Fuji 5th Station, rides a ropeway in Hakone and crosses Lake Ashi on the sightseeing boat, then returns from Odawara by bullet train. It lasts 10 hours, starts from Ginza or Shinjuku, and costs from $153. The ropeway and cruise tickets are included.

Quick · the lake
Lake Ashi fills part of the Hakone caldera; the Hakone Tourist Association says a rock avalanche from Mount Kamiyama dammed it 3100 years ago. Three ships dressed as galleons sail it today: Queen Ashinoko, Royal II and Victory.
Odakyu Hakone says their interiors are modeled after British and French military ships, with 3D art and pirate objects inside. Odakyu Hakone's own pages call the boats the Hakone pirate ship. The crossing between Togendai and the southern ports takes about 25 to 35 minutes.
From the deck you see the forested caldera rim, Hakone Shrine's red torii standing in the water and, on clear days, Mount Fuji in the same view. The lake is calm and the ships are large, so there is almost no rocking.

Our guide explained clearly what we could do if the fifth station closed. It rained, yet we still saw Fuji, and the boat on the lake was our group's favorite part.”

We actually saw Fuji! A full, well organised day using bus, train, boat, cable car and our own feet, with lots of chances for photos.”

Easy to find, on time and well run. Our guide made sure everyone was looked after, and there was enough time to eat, take photos and shop.”

A very knowledgeable guide who made sure we did not miss anything, the clouds cleared for Fuji, and the bullet train back was something special.”

Lovely weather for Fuji and a friendly, enthusiastic guide. My only wish was a little more time at each stop to take it all in.”
Quick · what reviewers say
The listing has 5,293 reviews with an average of 4.42. Recent reviewers name their guides often, praised as knowledgeable, funny and well organized, and several reviewers enjoyed riding so many kinds of transport in one day: coach, ropeway, boat and bullet train.
The boat earns its own mentions. One group called the cruise on the lake their favorite part of the day, pretty and peaceful, and others singled out the bullet train ride back to Tokyo as a highlight.
The honest notes are about time and weather. Some reviewers wished for longer at each stop, some saw Fuji clearly and others only cloud, and on busy holidays queues at the ropeway and the boat cost time. Those are the realities of a day that covers this much ground.

View tourQuick · the seasons
The boats sail every day of the year, but the lake changes a lot from month to month. Spring opens with cherry blossoms from late March into early April, followed by azaleas that last until late May, a lovely season for the crossing.
Summer brings the Lake Festival on 31 July and the Ashinoko Summer Festival Week, when as many as 18,500 fireworks rise over the water. The fall colors follow from early October to early December.
Winter is cold but clear. The boats switch to a winter timetable from 1 December to 19 March, on which some crossings take longer, and the ropeway operator says winter has comparatively more days when Fuji can be seen during the day.

Quick · clouds and fuji
Fuji is never guaranteed. The ropeway operator explains that in summer the mountain is often hidden by clouds once the day warms, which makes mornings the best time to look. On this tour the 5th Station comes in the morning and the lake in the afternoon.
If weather prevents travel beyond the 4th station, the listing arranges a visit to Oshino Hakkai or another scenic spot instead. On the day of the Mt Fuji hill climb race in early June, an alternative place replaces the 5th Station because of the road closure.
The same rule covers the rest of the day: if weather, traffic or a suspension stops an activity, the tour visits an alternative or gives a gift, with no refund for the change. The lake itself still looks fine under cloud, and the boats sail in rain.
Your Hakone day

Quick · the ropeway
The ropeway part of the day is included in the price. The tour's description says it takes place on Mount Hakone or on Mount Hakone-Komagatake, depending on the schedule for the day. Both ropeways have a station on the shore of the lake.
On the Hakone Ropeway the gondolas cross Owakudani, a steaming valley that formed through an eruption almost 3000 years ago, and at one point they pass about 130 m above the ground. Mount Fuji shows between Ubako and Owakudani on clear days.
The Komagatake ropeway on the east shore is shorter: 1,800 m from Hakone-en to the summit in 7 minutes, with Mount Fuji in view from the top. Our guides to both ropeways explain what you see on each.

Quick · what to bring
The listing asks you to bring comfortable shoes and warm clothing, and with good reason. By Odakyu Hakone's figures the lake and Owakudani run about 3 to 4 degrees colder than Hakone-Yumoto, and the open deck adds wind off the water.
Lunch is a separate decision. The listing recommends booking the lunch option, because changing on the day costs extra; a vegetarian lunch without meat, alcohol or seafood can be requested, but halal and vegan meals are not available. The ships themselves sell only drinks and snacks.
Leave the drone at home, since drones are not allowed. Check the health notes before booking too: the listing rules the day out for pregnant women and for anyone with respiratory issues or pre-existing medical conditions.
Under the keel
Lake Ashi formed when part of Mount Kamiyama collapsed 3100 years ago.
A steam explosion broke the volcano's northwest flank and the rock avalanche blocked the valley, and the steaming scar of that collapse is Owakudani, which the ropeway crosses.
Quick · your language
The live guide speaks English. On top of that the tour lends audio headsets with commentary in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Ukrainian.
The provider behind the listing, Japan Panoramic Tours, states more than 10 years on GetYourGuide and more than 15,000 completed activities. In recent reviews, guests write about guides who explained the options clearly when plans had to change and kept a long day running on time.
If you travel with a JR pass, note one detail: the listing asks JR pass holders to book its Return by Bus option instead of the bullet train. Choose the option that matches your rail ticket when you book.
The practical part
Quick · the ports
The ships link three ports: Togendai in the north, where the Hakone Ropeway arrives, and Moto-Hakone-ko and Hakone-machi-ko in the south. At Togendai the walk from the gondola to the boats takes about 3 minutes inside the same building.
Moto-Hakone-ko is the port for Hakone Shrine and its red torii, and Hakone-machi-ko sits beside Onshi Hakone Park and the Hakone Checkpoint. Odakyu Hakone names both southern ports for fine views of Mount Fuji.
On the tour, the crossing is followed by Odawara Station and the train back. If you come back on your own another day, our page on tickets and ports explains each pier, and the fares since October 2025.
Yes. The tour lists a ticket for the Lake Ashi cruise and one for the Hakone Ropeway among its inclusions.
Ginza or Shinjuku. Pickup is at Matsuya Ginza or the LOVE statue in Shinjuku; hotel pickup is not included.
10 hours. The listing gives 10 hours, with the bullet train arriving back in Tokyo at around 6 PM.
By bullet train from Odawara. A 40-minute train ride; the one-way ticket to Tokyo Station is included.
Only if you book that option. A buffet lunch comes with the lunch option; booking it ahead is recommended, as changes on the day cost extra.
Return by Bus. The listing asks JR pass holders to book its Return by Bus option.
English. Audio headsets add Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Ukrainian.
Free up to 24 hours before. Reserve now and pay later is also available on this listing.
Hakone or Komagatake. The description says it depends on the schedule for the day.
An alternative or a gift. The tour visits another place, such as Oshino Hakkai, or gives a gift; changes are not refunded.
Quick · on your own
GetYourGuide does not sell a standalone ticket for the Lake Ashi cruise. You buy it at the port: since 1 October 2025 a one-way crossing between Togendai and a southern port costs 1,700 yen for adults. A special cabin adds 800 yen on those legs.
The other route is the Hakone Freepass, which covers the normal cabin as often as you like along with the ropeway, the mountain railway and buses in its area. From Shinjuku it costs 7,100 yen for adults for two days, or from $46 for the pass listing on GetYourGuide.
Odakyu Hakone works out that the classic loop from Shinjuku costs 8,322 yen in fares without the pass and 7,100 yen with it. What you miss without a tour is Mount Fuji's 5th Station, which this coach day reaches by road in the morning.

Quick · honest caveats
This day suits travelers with one free day in Tokyo who want Mount Fuji, a ropeway and the pirate ship without planning a single connection. The ropeway and cruise tickets and the bullet train ticket back are included, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before.
It suits you less if you want long stops. The day covers a lot of ground in 10 hours, the itinerary order can change with traffic and weather, and activities that cannot go ahead are replaced without a refund. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan your way to Ginza or Shinjuku.
With 5,293 reviews and an average of 4.42, it is a well-trodden route rather than a hidden one. If you would rather linger at Hakone Shrine or sail the lake twice, a night in Hakone with the Freepass is the slower alternative.
